More snow, Courses and march trip

My last blog was already three weeks ago. The time is going so fast.
Thursday Febuary 5th we went back to school after a long weekend of 6 days because of the snow and exams. Friday was again a snow day so a long weekend. After lunch Sanne and her family picked me up to go to Bridgewater. In the evening we watched some moviesn and I stayed overnight for a sleepover. The next morning we walked to town to get some food and eat at subway for lunch. Back home we baked cookies. After this we watch high school musical. In the evening we had an early birthday party for Sanne. Sunday was just a lazy day. Monday we went back to school.
At school I choosed first Math 12, PAL 11, Chem 12 and PE 11. Because of my mark for Math 11. The teacher thought it would be better if I went to Calculus 12, the hardest course for math at school, Becayse of calculus is during my pe 11. I dropped Pe and went to calculus. I had to find something else for during math 12. So I went to english 11. We started here with Shakespeare and a lot of essays and that is totally not my thing. So I dropped out of English and have a free to work on my chem and calculus. So the courses I have now are pal ( physical active living) 11, Chemistry 12 and Calculus 12.
My Final marks for the first semester. Yoga I ended with a 96 and for my exam I had a 90. For math I ended with a 92 and for my exam I had a 89. For pe I ended with a 91 and for my exam I had around the 70. And for ESL I ended with a 96 , I had no final exam for esl.
Yesterday was Formal friday at school. That means everyone dresses up to school. Because Sanne loves dresses she was wearing her trackpants and sweater on the picture.
We have a lot of snow, I don't know where it is all coming from. I would love it to sent some to the Netherlands. I get tired of the snow. The roads are bad and where you can walk it is all soft and dirty snow.
In three weeks I will be in the ariplane to Toronto. I will leave on Saturday March 14 and will be back on Friday March 20. I will visit the family we have in Waterloo and stay with them.
130 days before I will be back in the Netherlands. 105 days before I see my parents again. It looks far away but they will be here before I know.

End of the semester, exam and snow-days

We start in English again, is for me already easier.
Two weeks ago I had my first exam, Yoga, I was really nervous but everything went well. I got a 90% and my mark for yoga is 96%. Tuesday we had a basketball game. We played a really good game but we lost. Thursday we had another basketball game. Again a really good game but we lost also this game with 52-31. Friday the last school day. Not one of my favourites. I started this day with yoga. After a short yoga practise we all got a flower, she choice for tulips because of me and Sanne, and a card with some pictures and a letter from Ms LeBlanc. We made some pictures and ate cake all together. Second class was ESL. Also here we had a cake, Oreo cake. We didn't do anything the rest of the class. We listen to music and talked because that is how you learn English. Third class was math. We went to the libary because there was a lot of food we could eat and we could study for our exam. Last Class was PE. I had to give the class with Dora. I think it went very well. After school I went home. In the evening I went to the pizzeria with Chikako, Dora and Sanne. The last time pizza for Chikako before she was leaving.
Saturday Aline had a party for the brazilians and Sanne, Jayme and I were also invited. They had a lot of brazilian food and believe me that is really good. The rest of the weekend I learned for my exams. Monday I had my first exam. Mathematics, it was not very hard, for math I had already a 95% and the exam is only 30% of the final mark. Thuesday my PE exam was planned but because of all the snow that we had we got a snowday, so I stayed in bed all day and tried to learn some for my PE exam. Because of the snowday on Tuesday our exam was planned on Wednesday but also Wednesday was a snowday. Afternoon I went to Sanne to hang out for the afternoun and at 4 o'clock we went to Chikako. For supper I went with Chikako, Dora and their hostparents to a restaurant for Chikako her last supper in Canada. Thursday I had finally my last exam, PE. I was finished in 30 minutes. After the exam I stayed at school with Mika en Eddy. It was their last day in Canada. Saying goodbye to Mika, Eddy and Chikako and Luiz. Friday was a lazy day. Jayme and Terri were gone so I was alone with the cats. I lay in bed for a long time and than started to make ready because in the evening I went to Chester for a goodbye party from one of the brazilian guys. Saturday I came home. Because I slept 2 hours the night before I went to bed and slept, I woke up and eat my supper and went back to bed to sleep more. Sunday Aline came to our home for her last visit. After we find out that all the flight get changed because of the weather that is coming she left earlier than we expected. Today, Monday, I don't need to go to school because the D-block exams are today and I have no exam for ESL. Tomorrow is a marking day so another day no school. If we don't get another snowday I'm going back to school on wednesday and than the new semester will start. New classes, new teachers and new internationals students. The courses I have are Math 12 , Physical activing living 11, Chemistry 12 and PE 11. I have for PAL and PE the same teacher and for math and chemistry the same teacher. So only two teacher but I never have them two hours straight. The teacher for PE and PAL I had already first semester for PE 12.
149 days before I will be back in Amsterdam. Sounds far away but I'm sure it is July first before I know it.

Back to school, basketball, skiing, sick and a dance
Canada. Can-a-da
Def. We are not Americans. Not everyone lives in an igloo. We do not bathe in maple syrup, but if we could we would. It's not winter 12 months a year. We have a goose named after us. It's ok to say 'EH'! Not everyone has a pet polar bear. We think the mounties' uniform is stylish. The beaver is a cherished animal. The best country in the wordl since 1867.
De laatste keer dat ik schreef is al weer ruim twee weken geleden. Het laatste weekend van de vakantie stond in het teken van huiswerk maken. Maandag weer terug naar school. Donderdag een basketball game, helaas verloren. Voor vrijdag en zaterdag hadden we een basketbal toernooi geplant staan. Door het slechte weer werdt vrijdag afgelast en dus drie wedstrijden op zaterdag. De eerste twee gewonnen en de laatste verloren. Maandag weer een game. We moesten naar North Queens. Een goede wedstrijd die we gewonnen hebben. Dinsdag was een home game voor de boys. Bij bijna elke home game doe ik de score dus ook bij deze. Woensdag was een dag waar ik al een tijdje naar uitkeek. We gingen skiien. Ondanks dat de piste niet heel moeilijk zijn was het een heerlijke dag. Prachtig weer met veel zon. Donderdag ochtend voelde ik me al niet goed. Maar voor zoals veel mensen mij kennen blijf ik niet veel ziek thuis, dus aangekleed aan de ontbijt tafel. Nadat toch eten langzaam ging heeft Terri me thuis gehouden. Na een paar uurtjes slaap voelde ik me al weer stukke beter. Jessie hield me de hele dag gezelschap in bed. S'avonds was er een dance and talentshow from NSISP. Omdat ik me al weer stukke beter voelde daar heen geweest met Dora, Sanne en Chikako. Er waren niet heel veel studenten maar toch heel gezellig. Vrijdag weer naar school en S'avonds weer uiteten met Dora, Sanne en Chikako voor Pizza. Zaterdag een rustig dagje huiswerk bij werken van de twee dagen die ik gemist had. Vandaag ,zondag, rustig dagje en meer huiswerk gemaakt.
Morgen heb ik mn eerste examen. Samen met Sanne en Chikako moeten we een yoga class geven. Verder staan er nog twee home games op het progamma. 26 Januari beginnen de echte examens al heb ik er maar twee. Wiskunde op maandag en op dinsdag heb ik mijn gym examen. Daarna een heerlijk lang weekend als we geen sneeuwdagen krijgen. Daarna begint een nieuw semester met nieuwe vakken en nieuwe internationale studenten want een stel vertrekken eind deze maand. Raar dat we dan al op de helft zitten. Juni lijkt nog zo ver weg. Vanochtend met papa en mama plannen voor hun reis in juni besproken en ik heb er best wel zin in, maar de gedachten dat ik hier weg ga en niet in twee maanden terug kom is raar. Het voelt hier al zo vertrouwd. Veel vrienden gemaakt, internationale studenten maar ook Canadese.Exchange is not a year in your life, it's a life in one year! Dat is zeker waar. De plannen om hier terug te komen zal ik elk jaar wel willen plannen.

Kerst oud en nieuw, sneeuw en nieuwjaarsduik

Ja maar weer eens een blog in het Nederlands, omdat ik uit betrouwbare bronnen weet dat sommige van jullie dit toch fijner vinden.
In mijn afgelopen blog heb ik teruggeblikt op 2014. Nu zal ik jullie weer even bij praten wat ik de afgelope twee weken heb meegemaakt. Wat drukke dagen en wat dagen waarop ik helemaal niks deed, eigelijk zoals een vakantie hoort te zijn volgens mij.
Bij het begin van de vakantie beginnen, woensdag 24 december kerst avond. Na het avond eten naar oma want daar komt de hele familie heen. Gezellig allemaal wat drinken en de eerste kkerst cadeautjes open doen. Donderdag 25 december na het ontbijt met Jayme and Terri rond de kerstboom en alle cadeatujes open maken. Het leek wel sinterklaas. We begonnen met de sokken. Hierin zaten verschillende kleine cadeautjes zoals: een scheurkalender met elke dag een quote, een prinsesses candy cane, skittles, een sok om mee naar huis te nemen, warme sokken en een puzzel om de bigban te bouwen. Daarna met de "grote cadeaus". Vanuit nederland had mama wat cadeautjes opgestuurd. Sloffen in de vorm van klompen. Verder kreeg ik nog pyjamas, sieraden, kleren, sokken, nagellak en van Terri heb ik een trainingsjas van school gehad alleen komt die pas in als we terug naar school zijn. Na alle cadeautjes klaar gemaakt om naar oma en opa te gaan. Daar heerlijk met de hele familie kalkoen gegeten. In de avond met Terri een kerstfilm gekeken. Vrijdag naar een zus van oma met de hele familie omdaar heerlijk te lunchen. Zondag met Sanne en Chikako naar Tim hortons geweest en daarna gezellig pizza gegeten met z'n drieen. Maandag een dagje in de ijshockey rink. Er was een toernooi gaande.
Woensdag 31 december oudjaarsdag, dit jaar zonder oliebollen voor mij. Na lunch naar Sanne en met zn alle inkopen gedaan voor de avond. S'avonds hebben we nachos gegeten en als toetje hadden we ijs en bigadeiro en dankzij mijn kerstpakket ook slagroom:). Bigadeiro is iets met melk en chocolade poeder gekookt, erg lekker met aardbijen en oreo's. Na al het eten was het al 12 uur in nederland en dus tijd om even te skypen met thuis. Na het skypen met Sanne films gekeken. Iets voor twaalfen snel terug naar warme kleren, we liepen al rond in onze pyjamas, en met de fles champagne en sterretjes naar buiten. Echt vuurwerk hoor je hier maar weinig, we hebben het misschien mar 5/6 keer gehoord. Ideaal voor honden en katten dus. Na even buiten gestaan te hebben toch maar snel naar binnen en nog een filmpje kijken. 1 januari toen ik wakker werdt en naar buiten keek was alles wit. Het had flink gesneeuw en het sneeuwde nog steeds. Dus naar buiten wat foto's maken. Voor Mika en Eddy de eerste keer echt veel sneeuw in hun leven. Daarna heerlijk ontbeten met een pannekoeken ontbijt en warme chocolade melk met slagroom:). Door de sneeuw hadden we ons plan van de nieuwjaarsduik maar afgeschreven. Maar rond 12 uur toen Sanne haar gastmoeder thuis was zijn we toch gegaan. Op het strand stonden we ons zelf nog even goed aftevragen waarom we dit gingen doen. Maarja nu stonden we er toch dus gingen we ook. Na een gigantish koude duik in het water keihard terug gerend. Het filmpje staat al op facebook als bewijs.
Vandaag een rust dagje weer wat voor school doen want de examens zijn eind januari. Maandag weer terug naar school als het goed is want voor zondag wordt een sneeuwstorm verwacht.

Terugblik op een bijzonder 2014

De laatste dag van 2014. Een geweldig jaar waarin heel veel gebeurd is. Om bij het begin te beginnen.
30 December 2013 heb ik me aangemeld voor High School in Canada bij Travelactive. Een droom die al jaren in mn hoofd zat werd ineens werkelijk heid. In 2014 begonnen met alle papieren invullen.
2014 was ook het jaar waar we eindelijk met het PWS klaar waren. Na heel veel uren hadden we een prachtig PWS.
Begin Januarie me ingeschreven voor de ALO in Eindhoven want ook dat moest gebeuren voor als Canada niet door zou gaan.
Op 1 april kreeg ik een verlossend telefoontje, er was een gastgezin voor me gevonden in Canada. Er stond dus niks meer in de weg om niet te gaan. 2 Weekjes later moet ik naar Eindhoven voor de toelatingtest voor de ALO. Aan het eind van de dag kreeg ik ook daar geweldig nieuws, ik was toegelaten.
Daarna begon de volgende opgaven pas echt. De eindexamens. Na wat dagen examentraining en heel veel examens begon het op 13 mei toch echt. We begonnen met Nederlands en eindigde met Natuurkunde. Na de antwoorden op internet gezien te hebben werden er toch maar wat andere plannen bedacht. Na z'n 3 weken in spanning zitten ging de telefoon. Ik was geslaagd. Mama rende naar boven en kwam naar beneden met een Canadese vlag. Ja dat werdt nu ook echt werkelijkheid niet meer stond mij in de weg. Met een prachtige cijferlijst heb ik m'n HAVO diploma gehaald. Drie maanden vakantie voor de deur. Daarna volgde een lange zomervakantie. September leek nog zo ver weg en ineens was het Augustus, terug van een heerlijke vakantie in Kroatie en nog maar een paar weekjes thuis. En die voor iedereen die mij goed kent, natuurlijk vol gepland zaten. Nog een weekje naar de spelweek in Tricht. Heel veel afspreken met vrienden, uiteten met de familie en nog twee afscheidfeestjes. Na het eerste afscheidsfeestje met al mn vrienden en vriendinnen begon het echt tot me door te dringen. over twee weken ben ik in Canada. De laatste week begon het inpakken echt. Wat neem je eigelijk mee en wat kan je beter thuis laten. 30 augustus het laatse afscheidsfeestje met alle familie en vrienden. 1 september eindelijk, de dag waar ik zo lang naar uitgekeken had maar ook zo tegen op zag. Na heel wat vlieguurtjes stonden we dan, in Canada met onze koffers te wachten voor ons het visum. Nadat dat geregeld was door naar buiten, waar Terri en Jayme op me stonden te wachten. Na een anderhalf uur rijden stopte we ergens om te eten waarbij het toch echt tot me door drong, mijn droom is werkeljikheid. En nu bijna 4 maanden later leef ik nog steeds de droom. In een prachtig land met geweldige mensen. Een geweldig ervaring. Zoveel mooie momenten mee gemaakt.
2014 was een geweldig jaar met heel veel hoogte punten, alle dromen werden waarheid. Zoveel nieuwe vrienden gemaakt. En een berg nieuwe plannen voor volgend jaar. 2014 was een prachtig boek.
Ik wil iedereen bedanken die alles wat ik dit jaar heb meegemaakt waarheid heeft laten worden en dit jaar geweldig hebben laten worden.

12 Days of christmas

Monday December 8 started the 12 days of Christmas at school. That means that every day was an activitie or theme at school.
Monday was PJ day, The best one, all in PJ to school. We should intoduce that day also in the Netherlands. Thursday after school we went to Bridhewater with Mom, Jayme and Luiz. We eat some pizza and drove to Chester to go the Semi Formal at FHCS.Friday came santa at school and we could make some pictures with him.
The weekend saturday we went out for supper for nanny her birthday and after supper we went to the hockey game. Sunday we had a NSISP christmas dinner with all the internenation students. Also santa was there for some pictures. Yes it is cold here and we had some days snow already but for chritmas girls wear shorts and dresses.
Tueasday we had a Cake auction at school. Crazy to watch that something like that happen at a highschool. Some cakes where sold for $80. Wednesday Ugly Christmas Sweater day. My second favourite. Also we went this day to the elementary school to talk about the christmas in our country with all the internatiol student. The kids where very interesting in our stories. The most interesting they where in our schools our food and sports. Thursday was the day of the dance but first at school we had a potluck at yoga. We had a lot of food from all the different countries because we have a lot internationals in yoga. After school I went to Mika and Sanne with eddy to make ready for Semi. After a lot of fun we went to the dance. All the pictures you can find at the pictures. The little guy on the pictures is Ashton the little host brother of Sanne and Mika.
Friday the last day before the vacation. We had classes till 12:30 but I only went to my first class PE. After that we helped with cleaning the school and watch the christmas volleyball tournement.
And now I have vacation. I don't have a lot planned. I am pretty excited about Christmas because that will be a big different with what we do in the Netherlands.

Halifax, Shopping, Birthday and Sinterklaas

First I want to start with that I have 207 days left in Canada. Last time I wrote 198 days because I had the countdown on the first of June but I come back of the first of July. Almost 1/3 of my time here is gone. The time is going so fast. The time goes the fast when you have fun and I am sure that is true.
The last two weeks. I will start on November 26. For ESL I pankcakes at school. They where very good and everyone loves them:). The day later we had the volleyball game against the boys, our last volleyball game. 27 November was also jersey day at school. So everyone in jersey to school. pictures are on the blog
November 28 black friday. We went to Halifax and did some shopping. The night we spent in an hotel and the next day we went to Halifax Shopping center. black firday goes here the whole weekend so a lot of sales everywhere. With a lot of bags satuday night back to Brooklyn. In the evening we went to Bridgewater for the parade of light. We didn't saw a lot because it was too cold to stand outside.
December 3, my moms birthday, weird to be not at home and celebrate it with her. For a yoga project Sanne and I had to bake pepernoten for the whole school. Wednesday was a short day so after school to the superstore and buying all the ingredients and back to home to bake all the pepernoten. We baked almost 2000 pepernoten. For a break we went to the pizzarie with Chikako and Dora.
December 4, my own birthday. Waking up with so many messages from a lot of people I didn't expected. At school in lunch break I was making my lunch when they start sining and Dora came with a cake with candles. After that my sister came with an other cake so I had two cakes at school. After school Sanne and I went to every classroom to fill all the schoes. Our yoga project was that everyone can set their shoes and we give them pepernoten. After the shoes I went home. In the evening my canadian family cames for cake. When the family came they came with a big box for me. When I opened the box and read the first card. A box full with presents from family and friends. Something I didn't expect at all. All the card get a place on my wall and the pictures next to my bed.
December 5, The day before we set our shoes and Sinterklaas and Zwarte piet went also to Canada to fill our shoes. At school we get a lot of positive reaction for our pepernoten. Because not a lof of people set their shoes we had a lot of leftovers. So we went with our Zwarte pieten mutsen to the school and give them all away. A big succes:).

volleyball flannel friday, Halifax

November 11 Remembrance day that meens no school and to liverpool for a ceromony for remembrance day. They call all the names of the poeple who die during the wars that came from liverpool. Very impressed.
November 14 was flannel friday, so everyone with flannel cloths to school:). the picture you can find at my blog. also is every friday hat day, and because my mom sent me the unox hats Sanne and I wear them the whole day. After school I went to Chester for a volleyball tournement at Forest Heights. Friday night i slept in New Germany and when we woke up everything was white because of the snow. Also pictures of that are on my blog.The tournement was two days but I only went one day because saturdat we went with NSISP to Halifax. We went shopping and in the evening we went to the parade of lights. See the pictures.
November 19 was my first basketball game. I was really nervous because I had no idea what I have to do and how a game really works. But thanks to the team and the coach who explain a lot and help me during the game. After the game the boys had a game. I had plans to watch the game but because there was nobody to do the score I did with Sanne the score. Both no idea what we were doing but now we know everything and we had a lot of fun during the game.
November 21 the regionals for volleyball. We won all the games on friday:). Saturday again but we lose some games and we didnt get to the finals. We had a great season and I learn a lot about volleyball that I didn't know before.
When I came home yesterday there was already my first birthday card:). Very early but I love getting cards.
Last time someone ask me how long I have learn to speak english, I started in grade 6 till grade 8 but that was not really learning english. in grade 9 we really start learning english and had that for 5 years at high school.
I love Canada and all the people her, and get sad if I see that I have only 189 days left. I met amazing people here and have a second family.
